Portugal team arrived in aeroporto Portela, June 20th. Only Nani and Miguel spoke with the media

The Portugal team had a 2 and a half hour flight from Switzerland to Portugal. See the video of the Portugal team leaving their Euro 2008 headquarters, Neuchatel.

Neuchatel, Switzerland Euro 2008 headquarters

Lots of fans waited outside the Hotel Beau Rivage to see the Portugal euro 2008 bus pass by. The slogan "autocarro e movido a vontade do vencer" Cheerful despite the elimination. Many brought flags.

To reward the few fans that were there they gave out 2boxes full of shirts "Todos pelo futebol, 12". You can see the fans scrambling to get some of them.

Portela, Portugal

The players didn't face the media or fans. Only Nani and Miguel spoke to the media. Although, once the players were on the bus, you can see Scolari gesturing to the players to get off the bus and face the fans. Quaresma, Joao Moutinho and others signed autographs. All the players were wearing the black suits.

Some players stayed in Lisboa, others went north to Porto- all ready for their vacations.

"I don't want to talk about my future..." said Cristiano Ronaldo in today's press conference with Petit, June 17th

In today's press conference it was the turn of Cristiano Ronaldo and midfielder Petit. Here's 30 minutes of today's press conference with Cristiano Ronaldo and Petit. The parts where he speaks in Portuguese.

I think it's Bad Timing to put Ronaldo in today's press conference. Just when rumors of his future had practically disappeared... He's there. Even though the FPF (Portuguese FA) banned questions about Ronaldo's future, he was still asked about it!

I saw that part in Sky Sports news today. Gary Cottrell asked in Ronaldo in English persistently that for all the Manchester Untied fans watching did he decide, Ronaldo just smiled. The FPF representative told him that that question is not allowed. Cottrel asked Ronaldo again that he won't say ok, but if he had already "decided." Ronaldo just said, "you have to respect him." referring to the FPF representative. I don't blame Cottrell for insisting. That's his job as a reporter.

Why not put Petit and Miguel Veloso, or Simao.

About a new manager:

"I don't prefer a certain name. What I hope is that a good manager would come and that it be possible to continue the journey that Scolari started and that has been good."

"I've already said a few times that I don't want to talk about my future, because I'm concentrated in the Euro chmapinoship, namely the next game against Germany. Scolari already decided, good, but I will only talk about it after the Euro ends."

At the end of the press conference, a reporter asked Ronaldo is he preferred "paella" or "fish and chips" and Ronaldo answered "Cod."

- Do you think Cristiano Ronaldo will score against Germany?

Video- Portugal Fans outside Stade La Maladiere in Neuchatel where the Portugal team trains

How it looks outside the Stade la Maladiere, where the Portugal team trains in Neuchatel. Even though today's training session was closed to the public. You can see

Some fans waiting to see the Portugal euro 2008 bus drive by
The bus with tinted windows and fans waving- a bit disappointed that they can't see through the bus windows.
There's a type of plaza with Portuguese beer and snacks where fans of other national teams get together.

The announcement of Scolari as new Chelsea manager hasn't affected the Portugal team camp according to goalkeeper Ricardo. Today's press conference.

Today's Friday the 13th. Do you believe it brings bad luck? So far, Italy tied in the beginning of the 2nd half... Anyway, Today at the Portugal training camp. The usual press conference before the training session.
It was the turn of 2 defenders, Stuttgart Central defender, Fernando Meira and goalkeeper Ricardo.
It's their 2nd time at the press conference since the Portugal team arrived in Neuchatel, Switzerland.

You might have guessed. Questions on Scolari and Chelsea...

Some of what Ricardo said:
About the announcement that Scolari is the new Chelsea manager, affecting the team: "We're more focused than ever before to get the best result possible. Luiz Felipe Scolari will continue doing his job and we're going to do everything possible so his farewell will be the best. The manager lives in the present like us and will do everything he can so we can be proud.

About the timing of the announcement: "I don't have to think nothing of it. [positive or negative]. It's a normal thing, same for players and managers, that has nothing to do with 'timings.'"

About the next euro 2008 game against Switzerland this Sunday: "The players have to be prepared for everything. Scolari is the one in charge and knows the best decisions for each game."

12 June 2008

Portugal team- day off June 12th (day after 1-3 victory), back to training tomorrow June 13th.

After the victory against Czech Republic, the Portugal team has the day off. Pretty well deserved.

Qualify to the quarterfinals even before playing the 3rd game
qualify as 1st in the group A

Tomorrow they'll be the usual press conference and then the training session

Video- Quim the goalkeeper out of the Euro 2008 because of a training injury, returned to Lisboa, Portugal on Wednesday.

It is a sad situation for Quim as a Portugal 2nd choice goalkeeper in the Euro 2008. A lot was going in his favor to be in the starting lineup.

Because of an injury on his righthand in a training session, he's was ruled out of the Euro 2008 before Portugal's 1st game! He had already missed the 2002 world cup, 2006 world cup. Nuno, a goalkeeper from FC Porto was called up in his place.

Here's a video of Quim about to leave Neuchatel this wednesday,
  • He stayed a few days with the Portugal team in Neuchatel
  • Decided it would be better to be with his family and loved ones back home.
  • It's tough to be so close to the field and not be able to help

Scolari- the next Chelsea manager according to the Chelsea website!

Omg. Why did Chelsea have to announce it today when Portugal is in the middle of the group stage. On the Chelsea official website http://www.chelseafc.com/ the headline is "Scolari is new Chelsea manager"

According to the Chelsea official website, Scolari officially begins on July 1st. That's 2 days after the June 29 Euro 2008 final. It also says that Chelsea will no longer comment on this due to him being in the Euro 2008.

The June 11, 2008 press release is also on the Portuguese FA website, fpf.pt (Federacao Portuguesa do Futebol).

I'm mad at Chelsea for having it announced today. I can't stand the transfer rumors in the Portugal team. Every press conference with a Portugal player, transfer questions. Before yesterday, it was Deco - is he going to Inter, where? Yesterday it was Carvalho- would he want to join Mourinho, does Cristiano Ronaldo want to go to Real Madrid.

Portugal is exceeding expectations in this Euro 2008. No one would have predicted that it would be the 1st team to qualify to the quarter finals and already score 5 goals in 2 matches. If only that would get a bit more attention on the news. On SkySportsNews on Fox Soccer channel, it's always about Cristiano Ronaldo's future. They only put parts of the press conferences when the Portugal players answer a question about Cristiano Ronaldo going to Real Madrid.

Anyway, I bet many Portugal fans will breath a sigh of relief. Finally. Ricardo and Nuno Gomes no longer guaranteed in the starting lineup. Only Scolari can explain why Quim wouldn't start.

Now the question is: A foreigner or a Portuguese? (For the next Portugal manager) There's even a poll on Portuguese sports paper Record.pt.

What do you think?

- Did it come as a surprise to you? How will this announcement affect the Portugal camp in Euro 2008?

Video- Nuno already in Neuchatel, June 8th, press conference Raul Meireles, training open to the public

This is the "Day After" of Portugal's 1st game. You'll see:
  • Nuno, the FC Porto goalkeeper, already at the La Maladiere stadium training with the team
  • Raul Meireles speaking at the press conference. About his goal "I felt an enormous happiness. Scoring a goal in a European championship, for my country, it's a feeling I'll never forget..."
  • Joao Moutinho at the press conference
  • Portugal players at the training session, Postiga, Nani

10 June 2008

June 10th, Portugal press conference with Ricardo Carvalho and Nuno Gomes.

Today Portugal has a press conference with the 2 Portugal players:
Ricardo Carvalho and Nuno Gomes.

Carvalho about facing Koller: "It will be a tough duel. For both Pepe and me. He [Koller] is physically stronger, but we'll tray to stop his game with our characteristics, that is, we'll be more quicker. We have our arms to stop him."

About tomorrow's game Czech Republic- Portugal: "The next game is very important because with a victory we can go through to the next stage. We have to play as a team like we did. If we are compact and cohesive we can win. Then, we also have our individual qualities."

About Mourinho wanting him at Inter: "Yes. I heard comments. But for now, I have a contract with Chelsea and it depends on the club. we'll see. I'm focused on helping my country and after we'll see what happens."

Day 2, June 3rd- 6 Photos of Portugal training for Euro 2008, Stade Maladiere, Neuchatel, Switzerland

Portugal plays the 2nd match on June 7th. Portugal-Turkey.

Tuesday, June 3, 2008- Day 2 of Portugal training in Neuchatel for Euro 2008

Afternoon, Stade La Maladière, Neuchatel, Switzerland
1st training open to the public. 12, 000 fans in the stands!

The first to walk onto the pitch was Manager Scolari. As you would expect, Cristiano Ronaldo got most of the attention according to Portuguese press.

Scolari theoretically put 2 teams. The Portugal starting 11 team "titulares" 4-4-2 wearing yellow vests:

Quim,

Bosingwa, Pepe, Ricardo Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira,

Petit, João Moutinho, Deco,

Cristiano Ronaldo, Nuno Gomes e Simão.

This starting 11 team scored 2 goals. 1st goal: Ronaldo went forward to pass it to Moutinho woh was isolated, around Bruno Alves. Moutiniho then passed it to Nuno Gomes to score. 2nd goal: Nuno Gomes again from a Cristiano Ronaldo shot that goalkeeper Ricardo couldn't save.

The other Portugal team, 4-3-3, wearing green vests:

Ricardo

Miguel, Bruno Alves, Fernando Meira, Jorge Ribeiro,

Miguel Veloso, Raul Meireles, Quaresma,

Nani, Hélder Postiga e Hugo Almeida.

After a break, the surprising change!!! Because Scolari always trusts Nuno Gomes no matter what. Nani took Nuno Gomes' place as 2nd forward. In the end the substitutes beat the starting 11 team in yellow by 2-3. 2 goals by Hugo Almeida and 1 from Helder Postiga.

Bosingwa left earlier as did Deco. Then, free kick training with Simão, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Quaresma and Miguel Veloso.

At the end of the training, it rained. The players signed autogrpahs for the fans. They signed flags and jerseys.

Wow- Ricardo not with the starting 11! I hope it's like that on Portugal-Turkey. Substituting Nuno Gomes in the starting 11 team. Hope it happens not just in the training session but in games that matter.

Now, Enjoy the pictures! Let me know which one you liked the most!
