I hadn't seen his kids. The second picture is a nice moment. Wonder if they want to play football like their famous dad. The kids walked out of the tunnel at the Da Luz stadium with Rui Costa in his last game.

Rui Costa- excessive complaining by Sporting about the Taca da Liga final. March 25, 2009

March 25, 2009- Rui Costa talked after visiting the school "Escola Secundária Camilo Castelo Branco" in Carnaxide. It's part of his ambassador functions of "PT nas escolas."

About Benfinca winning the Taça da Liga final-
"An important victory for hte rest of the season. Hope it's the first of many titles."

About the controversial penalty given to Benfica at that final-
"Nobody likes to lose a final. A final is to win. At the beginning, nobody givae importance to this challenge. It started gaining importance when the final involved two of the best Portuguese clubs. Sporting complains about a penalty- as seen- that was not. I understand that. What I don't understand is the excessive complaining."

About Paulo Bento complaining- "I already said that everyone is excessively complaining about it. That is something I odn't understand. I would have said the same if its happened in Benfica."

Video Rui Costa interview, Benfica to win Saturday's Carlsberg Cup, keeps trust on coach Quique 19/03/2009

This Saturday at the Algarve stadium, the final of the Taca da liga, Carlsberg Cup, is Sporting v. Benfica.

Troféu pode ser uma conquista especial para Rui Costa enquanto dirigente do Benfica
Edição da Tarde| 19/03/2009

Rui Costa:
About winning the Carlberg cup:

00:00 "He's motivated, confident, well-planned. We know it will be a difficult game. It's always a derby. The derbies are always hard. It's a competition we want to win. We wanted to win it since the beginning. We don't accept the idea that we'll win it to save the season. Benfica doesn't enter competitions to save seasons."

Despite Benfica's defeat against V. Guimaraes, he still trusts coach Quique:

"When things don't go right, one always looks to blame anyone anywhere, coach, president, sporting director, players. We need to know how to accept those criticisms when they exist and realize wha't going right and wrong. Quique has all my confidence. He'll continue having my trust. I work with whim daily."

01:11 Nuno Gomes in the press conference:
"The president, yesterday or before yesterday, made declarations that he counted with the coach. The gorup is also with the coach. We consider him a coach with innovative ideas."

01:37 About Rui Costa winning a trophy as a sporting director, not as a player:
"I hope it will be my first trophy. I'm optimistic so I hope it will be the first of many."

Nuno Gomes' contract with Benfica still in negotiations, says Rui Costa, Mar 2, 2009

Nuno Gomes' contract with Benfica expires at the end of this season 2008-09. Benfica is going through the negotiations yet there hasn't been an agreement yet much less a signature. Rui Costa, Benfica sporting director, wants Nuno Gomes to stay ad respects what he has done for Benfica. Nuno Gomes is not the only one that Benfica is dealing with. There's also Luisão, defender.

At the Benfica gala at the club's 105th anniversary, Rui Costa said of both Nuno Gomes and Luisão in Portuguese:

"Let's not confuse things. Being a symbol of the club doesn't guarantee you quality, but in these cases, I want the continuity of these players. Not just because of what they give to Benfica but what they can still give to Benfica. Because of their quality, continuity is important and Benfica is interested in that."

About taking long to sign the contract:

"The time it's taking is normal. Benfica wants the players to play consistently and the player wants to stay. I confirm that both parties want this."

Monica 08 thoughts: Simão left Benfica. Rui Costa left Benfica. I'd like to see Nuno Gomes challenge himself in a league abroad either in Spain or Italy. Rui Costa had a fabulous career at AC Milan. Simão is playing in the Champions League with Atletico Madrid.

Nuno Gomes can still be the symbol of Benfica. Why not copy Rui Costa and come back toward the end of his career.

A team like AS Roma and Udinese could use a striker like Nuno Gomes. I wish I could say, Fiorentina, Juve, Inter, AC Milan or even Sampdoria. Unfortunately, he'll stay on the bench in those teams.
Fiorentina- Mutu is the star striker. Pazzini even left in the January window because he was tired on being on the bench and not playing.

Juve- Trezeguet is back. Amauri has scored in almost every game since the beginning of the season. Iaquinta is a substitute. Gomes would probably be the 3rd choice.

Inter- Ibrahimovic has his starting 11 place guaranteed. Adriano and Balotelli are the other choices. Mourinho doesn't include Crespo in more games not even as a substitute.

AC Milan- When there is Pato, Inzaghi, who needs another striker? Milan needs to look at midfielders and defenders instead.

March 30, 2008- Video Rui Costa, 'So' visto' show, behind-the-scenes filming of the commercial to support the Portugal national team during the Euro 2008.

I only included the English translation of the parts with Rui Costa. Chalana speaks often.

01:18 Journalist: "So in this commercial, there's Cristiano Ronaldo, Futre, and Chalana."
Rui Costa: "It's a great honor to be part of this commercial with them. They are great players."

01:45 Journalist: "So, what do you feel when you wear these colors?" [Portugal uniform]
Rui Costa: "Lots of happiness. Reminds me when I'm in the soccer field."

01:58 Journalist: "How do you see the game style of the Portugal team?"
Rui Costa: "Oh, I see it and miss it a lot. I feel patriotic. I proudly represented my country for 12 years. I would like to think that I'm still able to say that I represent my country --not in the field but off the field in the bench."
