Video Ricardo Carvalho post-game interview July 19, 2009 in USA
No doubt that Ricardo Carvalho has had a fantastic weekend- scoring the equalizer goal for Chelsea in the Community shield. It also looks like he's staying and the transfer rumors were just that, rumors.
July 19, 2009 in USA- An interview in the mixed-zone. He addresses the transfer rumors. When he was ruled out he did think about the rumors in the newspapers.
Ricardo Carvalho said in English:
"What I said in that moment, was --- I had four great seasons here. Last season wasn't so good so I wasn't happy. I think the club- because I didn't play. So in that time, I felt like, maybe it's time to go. I said that because I saw in the newspaper saying maybe that I'm going to leave.
So, after that, I react. But now, I have to be professional and I have to get fit and try to play and try to help my teammates. In the future, you never know but in this moment I'm going to be fit."

Photos Ricardo Carvalho in Portugal 0-0 Sweden, March 28, 2009
Ricardo Carvalho had to make changes to his usual game in today's Portugal 0-0 Sweden, March 28, 2009.
Usually, he's a central defender, runs down the middle sometimes. Here he had more functions because Jose Bosiingwa, right-back, got injured in the 45th minute. Queiroz didn't have any more right-backs on the bench. Bosingwa awas replaced by a central defender, FC Porto's ROLANDO. Carvalho was moved to the right as a right-back!
He did the throws on the right side. Did a few runs on the right side and made crosses to the area.
60' Ricardo Carvalho making a run on the right side, cross to the area but hits the far post
84' miscalculation or no communication between Cristiano Ronaldo and Carvalho in this Portugal corner kick. CR7 heads it toward the ground to the far post. Carvalho heads it too right after but instead heads the ball over the bar. Both are disappointed.
92' Corner kick taken by Mellberg (Juventus), headed by Carvalho. Carvalho was offside on the far post. Mellberg kept arguing with the referee even after the free kick.
-------
Interesting that there wasn't another right-back on the bench. When Ferreira was called up there was Miguel, Ferreira, and Bosingwa.

Portugal lineup for Portugal v. Sweden, March 28, 2009
About an hour before the game, the Portugal lineup. Deco is 100% fit but is out of the starting 11. Zenith's Danny will start. Goalkeeper Eduardo beat out Beto and Bochum's Daniel Fernandes. It will be the first time Eduardo is in goal in an official Portugal game.
Defense- Ricardo Carvalho and Bruno Alves. I thought Pepe would start.

Ricardo Carvalho on cover Chelsea magazine March 2009
I went to bookstore cafe yesterday and found Chelsea magazine March 2009. Ricardo Carvalho was on the cover.
Two interviews in the magazine caught my attention. I read them at the cafe. Decided to pay the $9.25 for it so Carvalho can sign it when Chelsea tours the USA this pre-season.
Carvalho's interview was about what he felt these 2 months not playing. Carvalho right now (March 26, 2009) is with the Portugal training camp in Obidos. In the interview, Juve-Chelsea hadn't happened, neither the Coventry-Chelsea game. There were 2 pictures of him with brown jacket and scarf.
It starts out saying that Ballack was teasing Carvalho's choice of shoes. The questions were about the time being ruled out. I thought it was interesting that he says that he didn't watch the Chelsea games where he was ruled out. He had only asked his teammates about it and little of the highlights.
It reminded me of Pippo Inzaghi. He's used to being ruled out for months at a time at AC Milan. He had said that at first, he'd watch his teammates train in the training ground. After a few days, he couldn't handle it anymore because he would get more depressed.
Will Ricardo Carvalho be in Portugal v. Sweden on March 28, 2009?

After this weekend's games, Carlos Queiroz, will add one more player to the 21-man list. Two plaeyrs called up for the first time, Nelson a defender from Betis, and goalkeeper Beto from Leixoes. Nelson, why? Betis has conceded many goals in the last month, why him and not goalkeeper Ricardo?
As a fan in the USA, how come they can't play at least one friendly here. Lots of European expats and fans here too!
21-man list:
Goalkeepers:

Eduardo (Sporting Braga)
Beto (Leixões).

Who surprised you?
No Nuno Gomes he does play a few minutes every week. Orlando Sa from Sp. Braga, I thought he'd make it. No Ricardo Quaresma either.
