Will Petit's FC Koln beat Bayern Munich Sat Sept 13?
What a game on Sat Sept 13 for FC Koln! They face Bayern Munich! Bayern not off to a good start. Has not won their first 2 games. Tomorrow, Bayern play matchday 3 of the Bundesliga.
On Matchday 3, Saturday, August 29, 2008- FC Koln is in 8th place, 4 points in the Bundesliga table. One game down, Bayern is in 12th place with 2 points.
- Your thoughts FC Koln v. Bayern Munich? Fan of the Bundesliga?
Petit's FC Koln wins (away), 8th place in the table. Petit played 90 minutes
Did you know Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen are not in the top 10 in the table? Today Werder Bremen lost 3-2 away, it was losing 2-0 at halftime!! Tomorrow Bayern Munich plays the third match day of the Bundesliga season. Today, FC Köln played its third game and got an away win!
Portugal midfielder Petit played 90 minutes
About the game: Match day 3: Away win at the Wildpark
FC koln travelled to Karlsruher SC and won 2-0 (0-0) on the third match day of the Bundesliga season. The goals on the night, in front of 29,308 spectators at the Wildpark Stadium, were scored by Milivoje Novakovic (72’) and Sergiu Radu (84’).
Sluggish start
FC coach Christoph Daum made one change to the eleven which drew 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend. In the middle of the park Adil Chihi got the nod ahead of Wilfried Sanou.
The importance of the game was clear to see right from the beginning with both teams determined but unwilling to take risks and leave room for the opposing side to counter attack. KSC's Joshua Kennedy had the first chance on goal in the game after a quarter hour but he failed to cleanly connect with the pass from Sebastian Freis and miscued his shot.
Özat collapses
In the 25th minute there was a shock for everyone in the stadium. FC captain Ümit Özat collapsed without influence from any other player and had to be treated for several minutes as he lay unconscious on the pitch. Having regained consciousness, Özat was then stretchered away and replaced at the back by Kevin McKenna. The game never really recovered from the interruption for the rest of the half and the sides went into the break with the score locked at 0-0.
KSC raise the bar
After the re-start, the home side put the pressure on and forced FC keeper Faryd Mondragon into action. With just one second half minute played, the Köln keeper saved from Bradley Carnell and nine minutes later the Columbian kept his side on level terms with a fantastic stop from a Freis shot.
As the half progressed, KSC appeared to tire and FC got the upper hand. A long ball from the back found Petit, who in turn picked out Pedro Geromel with a pass. The Brazilian skipped past his marker and crossed to the back post where Milivoje Novakovic was perfectly placed to nod Köln into a 1-0 lead (72’).
FC seal the points
Having gone behind, the home side went determinedly in search of an equaliser and came close on a number of occasions but it was Christoph Daum’s side that proved more effective. A long ball was nodded on to Sergiu Radu by 'Nova' and the striker duped KSC keeper Markus Miller to make it 2-0 and seal the points for FC Köln.
Karlsruher SC starting lineup: Miller - Celozzi, Stoll, Sebastian, Eichner - Mutzel (63‘ Porcello), Aduobe (78‘ Kapllani) - Freis, da Silva, Carnell (74‘ Iashvili) - Kennedy
1. FC Köln starting lineup: Mondragon - Ümit Özat (30‘ McKenna), Geromel, Mohamad, Brecko - Petit, Matip - Chihi (87’ Broich), Antar, Radu - Novakovic (89’ Scherz)
Goals: 0:1 Novakovic (72.), 0:2 Radu (84.)
Attendance: 29,308

Petit - next game Karlsruhe v FC Koln August 29, 2008
Petit signed with Cologne, or FC Koln in Germany from Benfica. In the Euro 2008 Petit had announced his retirement from the Portugal national team. He is just playing club soccer in Germany but I still would like to know how Cologne is doing and if he's in the starting 11.
The next game is against Karlsruhe. I saw the last game FC Koln 1 - 1 Eintracht Frankfurt on GolTV. Cologne was winning at home but lost the lead in the second half. Petit was in the starting lineup. He wears the #12 jersey.
Cologne is in 13th place, Bundesliga table:

Nuno Gomes, Petit, Quim, and Jorge Ribeiro will play this week in Torneio do Guadiana.
The next Portugal game is on August 20th, then in September, the 2010 World Cup qualifyers start. I wanted to see in what shape the 4 international players from Benfica will arrive to those 2 games. They are forward, Nuno Gomes, Petit, goalkeeper Quim, and defender Jorge Ribeiro. Here are photos from the training on July 22, 2008:

Nuno Gomes didn't have a great season at Benfica before the Euro 2008-yet Scolari still put him in the starting lineup. I don't think Queiroz will keep Nuno Gomes in the starting lineup.
So this week- Benfica pre-season training.
Nuno Gomes, Petit, Quim and Jorge Ribeiro are in the official 28 man list for the Torneio do Guadiana. Match against a Premiership team, Blackburn Rovers and then, Sporting on Sunday.
Goalkeepers: Moreira, Quim e Bruno Costa
Defenders: Luís Filipe, Edcarlos, Luisão, Léo, Zoro, Miguel Vítor, Sepsi, Sidnei e Jorge Ribeiro
Midfielders: Petit, Katsouranis, Aimar, Balboa, Fellipe Bastos, Maxi Pereira, Rúben Amorim, Binya, Carlos Martins, Nuno Assis e Yebda
Forwards: Cardozo, Urreta, Makukula, Nuno Gomes e Nélson Oliveira

Portugal players Nuno Gomes, Petit and Jorge Ribeiro joined Benfica pre-season training today, July 21st. Just medical tests.
So Portugal will play its next friendly on August 20th against the Faroe Islands. I still can't believe they chose that opponent. What type of defenders will they face? Certainly not a test for the Portuguese forwards. Anyway.
Less than a month away and 3 players will just begin their pre-season training with Benfica. All these 3 arrived at Seixal, Portugal this morning. Untouchable in the starting lineup, at least under Scolari, Benfica forward Nuno Gomes arrived today. Petit and new Benfica signing, defender, Jorge Ribeiro.
The morning was used for medical and physical tests which will continue tomorrow. They didn't go on the soccer field.

Who are you supporting for the Eusebio Cup August 15th, Inter or Benfica?
talking about Spain Euro 2008 champions. Deco at Chelsea. Pictures of Cristiano Ronaldo and girlfriend on vacation in the papers. I thought I'd share with you something different. Sounds like another pre-season tournament that doesn't really matter. In this case it does. It's Jose Mourinho's time to show soccer fans how he plans to use Inter for the Serie A.
Inter:
- 15 days before the Serie A starts, we can see what tactical formation Mourinho might use. The starting 11.
- New acquisitions?
- Shape of the Forwards, like Crespo, and Ibra. They'll be facing the best goalkeeper in the Portuguese league Quim. The 32 year old is in th ebest shape of his career. He was supposed to play in the Euro 2008 but that's another story. He got injured before the 1st euro 2008 match...
Benfica:
- New acquisitions will be presented a few days before.
- 1st season with former AC Milan player, Rui Costa, as one of the directors in Benfica. He's the public face right now when it comes to Benfica transfers. Players leaving, staying.
I plan to watch the game. I'm a fan of AS Roma but I'll be watching it because it's Jose Mourinho. Inter, the reigning scudetto champions. Figo. Benfica.
If it's not on TV I'll hear the live narration on Portuguese radio Antena 1.
- What interests you about this game? Mourinho's starting lineup? See if Inter can be as strong this season?
