Video of the behind-the-scenes photo session of the Sporting CP 09-10 jerseys. It's a fun relaxed environment. Each player gets make-up on their face, mainly foundation. I liked the coach's make-up treatment. He doesn't smile much.

Selecção Nacional B- March 30, 2009- 2 training sessions today for their game in 2 days, April 1, 2009

Tomorrow the Portugal team plays a friendly Portugal v. South Africa. There's also the Selecção Nacional B that plays the day after against Romania. Carlos Queiroz will be on the bench as the coach of the Selecção Nacional B.

It's like a stepping-stone for players to arrive to the Portugal team. In Portuguese called the Selecção Nacional – Clube Portugal or Selecção AA. An example is retired midfielder Petit. I'm going to follow the results for the B team because there's João Pereira!

Selecção Nacional B trained twice at the Estádio Municipal do Cartaxo. Tomorrow there's another double training session, at 10h00 and at 17h00.

They're preparing for Portugal v. Romania, Estádio Municipal de Rio Maior, 19h30, April 1, 2009.

Benfica #1 goalkeeper Moreira and Sporting goalkeeper Rui Patrício trained separately with the goalkeeper coach Pedro Espinha.

------
Orlando Sa' was a forward in the Portugal 1-0 Finland game. Carlos Queiroz didn't call him up this time for Sweden, South Africa games. After scoring 2 goals in this tournament, Queiroz might keep him in mind.

Being a substitute at Sp. Braga and playing within the last 15 minutes of a game has to change.

Video Rui Patricio sent off in 71st minute in Sporting 2-5 Barcelona, Nov 26, 2008 with screenshots

Goalkeeper Rui Patricio was sent off in the 71st minute in Sporting 2-5 Barcelona, Nov 26, 2008. Was it nerves? Four minutes before, in the 67th minute, he had conceded an own goal by Sporting defender Caneira.

Video of minute 64 to 73 Sporting 2-5 Barcelona, Nov 26, 2008

Fast forward it to minute 6:30 to see the action and the 4 instant replays.

Rui Patricio bumps into Bojan when he was by humself about to score. Sporting defender Grimi is running behind Bojan, but Rui Patricio runs toward Bojan and when he stretches his arms, they 'hug' Bojan's waist. Of course, Bojan trips.

The ESPN narrator says on the video before he gets the red card:

"He's brought down. It has to be a penalty, doesnit it? Rui Patricio was involved and he has to go. After another mix-up at the back for Sporting. It's just calamity at the back."

The referee doesn't hesitate and shows him the red card. He can't believe it, stands there and won't walk off. He talks to the linesman takes about 15 seconds to walk off the field. Tiago was still stretching his arms.

Screenshots of the red-card incident:

See Rui Patricio's right arm still around Bojan's waist. Sporting defender Grimi behind Bojan. Of course it's a penalty!

Same form the front angle.

He won't walk off.

Says something to the referee from a distance.

Says something to the linesman from a distance too.

Finally walks off a minute later.

The back up goalkeeper Tiago ready for the change.

Tiago still stretching his arms, knowing it was going to be a penalty once he came on.

Video of goals Bayern Munich 7-1 Sporting, March 10, 2009, Miguel Veloso, João Moutinho, gk Rui Patricio in starting lineup

As a Sporting fan I'm not happy with Bayern Munich's lineup. They didn't put Luca Toni or Ribery! Who's Sporting playing with, Bayern B? This time Sporting has to win!!!

Get Moutinho's Sporting jersey 08-09
The surprise is Miguel Veloso in the Sporting lineup. I'm listening to the game on Antena1 radio. Sporting has just conceded a goal in the first 10 minutes of the game ;-( Mistake by Brazilian defender Polga.

In the first 30 minutes, Bayern's goalkeeper hasn't made a single defense!!!

An own-goal by Anderson Polga, Sporting central defender. Now 0-3. Polga had scored the own-goal against Roma that eliminated Sporting from the group stage in 2007-2008. Moutinho scored a goal. Less than a minute later, nobody marked Bastian S. and he scored another goal. A few minutes before Muller scored Bayern's 7th goal, Rui PAtricio had made a defense.

In Bayern's 6th goal, by Bommel, POlga slipped and was on the ground when Bommel shot on target. What if Polga had been replaced in the second half.

This is so embarassing. What a day.

Bayern Munich 7-1 Sporting, March 10, 2009 85th minute
8' [1 - 0] L. Podolski
34' [2 - 0] L. Podolski
39' [3 - 0] Polga o.g
42' [3 - 1] J. Moutinho
43' [4 - 1] Schweinsteiger
74' [5 - 1] M.v. Bommel
82' [6 - 1] M. Klose (pen.)
Video of goals:
8' [1 - 0] L. Podolski, March 10, 2009,

34' [2 - 0] L. Podolski, March 10, 2009,

Rui Patricio looked bad in this goal. No communication between central defender Polga and him. Polga went to the ball but didn't see Rui Patricio sneak up behind him so it bounced off Rui Patricio's forehead.

L. Podolski caught the rebound and shot on target. No Sporting players in front of him. Since Rui Patricio was next to him, even the net was empty.

39' Bayern Munich [3 - 0] Sporting Polga OWN GOAL

It was a Bayern Munich corner kick, Polga jumps higher than everyone and shoots with his right foot to his own net. Rui Patricio stands there like a statue. Who can blame him?

42' [3 - 1] J. Moutinho, March 10, 2009

This was a nice goal! Moutinho shoots to the top left corner, impossible for Bayern Munich goalkeeper to reach.

43' B. Munich [4 - 1] Sporting, Schweinsteiger, March 10, 2009,

This was the goal that came less than a minute after Moutinho's goal. A cross from the right side to B Schweinsteiger. He was completely unmarked. 3 Sporting defenders were in front of him. It looks more like a mistake by Rui Patricio. What do you think?

74' [5 - 1] M.v. Bommel

Cross from the right side. Sporting defender Tonel couldn't prevent Bayern's space to make runs on the right side. Cross to Van Bommel. Polga tried to stop Van Bommel from shooting but slipped, too slow to get up, V Bommel shoots. Rui Patricio once again...

Allianz Arena, Munich,

Goalkeeper Ricardo back in the "pre-call up list" of Queiroz for the next 2 Portugal game, Sweden and friendly with South Africa

Goalkeeper Ricardo back in goal in the next Portugal game? Not really knowing how stubborn Carlos Queiroz is. So a few days ago, I commented that if Ricardo does make it back, it would be the headline---- no matter who else is a surprise in the list.

Sure enough, today the list of Portugal's pre-call-up list was announced. See for yourself the headline on Record, Portuguese paper March 9, 2009:
Photobucket

After seeing the 38-man pre-call up list I'd say another surprise was Chelsea 2nd choice goalkeeper Hilario.

38-man list pre-call up list by Carlos Queiroz for the decisive qualification match against Sweden (March 28, 2009) and 3 days later, South Africa in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Chelsea is the club with most called up players, 5. FC Porto e Sporting have 3 called up players each. Benfica, only 2 players.
-------
Chelsea:Deco,
Ricardo Quaresma,
Hilário,
Bosingwa
Ricardo Carvalho

FC Porto: Bruno Alves
Raul Meireles
Rolando
Hélder Postiga,
João Moutinho
Rui Patrício, goalkeeper Sporting)
Simão e Maniche (Atlético de Madrid)

Ruben Amorim
Nuno Gomes

Nelson
Ricardo, R. Betis goalkeeper

Orlando Sá
Eduardo, Sp. Braga goalkeeper

Málaga: Eliseu
Duda

Nani
Cristiano Ronaldo

Manuel Fernandes, Miguel
Edinho (AEK)
Varela (Estrela da Amadora)

José Gonçalves (Nuremberga)
Danny (Zenit)
Fernando Meira (Galatasaray)
Tiago (Juventus)
Beto (Leixões)

Pedro Mendes (Rangers)
Pepe (Real Madrid)
Gonçalo Brandão (Siena)

Hugo Almeida (Werder Bremen)
Daniel Fernandes (Bochum)
André Marques (Vitória de Setúbal)
------

What did you think of the players in the list?

Hilario was one of the 5 goalkeepers in the list. Will he make it to the final 2 in the call-up list?

There was no Quim because he's on the bench at Benfica.

Ricardo is in goal at Betis since late January 2009. Was on the bench in the first half of the season. Started well but looked bad in the last game Mallorca 3-3 Betis.

Eduardo is #1 in goal at Sp. Braga. He's playing in the UEFA Cup, good performances.

Daniel Fernandes, #1 goalkeeper in Bochum. Haven't seen Bochum games.

Rui Patricio returned in goal at Sporting in the last game. He had missed at least 4 games after injuring his pinky finger on his left hand.

Hilario is #2 goalkeeper at Chelsea.

4 Central defenders: Pepe (Real Madrid), Fernando Meira (Galatasaray), Bruno Alves (FC Porto), Ricardo Carvalho (Chelsea)

Who will be the pair in the central defense?
