June 25 2010- Thirty-four year-old goalkeeper Quim, left Benfica and signed a 3 year deal with SC Braga. In the presentation of new Benfica goalkeeper, 24 year-old Roberto, Rui Costa dedicated a few thank-you words to goalkeeper Quim.

Benfica didn't want to renew Quim's contract at the end of last season. Quim left Benfica on a free transfer after 6 seasons with the Liga champions. The Portuguese international, 34, agreed to a three-year deal at Braga, rejoining the team he quit for Benfica in 2004.

Benfica then goes out and signs Spanish goalkeeper Roberto. Roberto is the highest-paid goalkeeper in the Portuguese league, Liga Sagres. He cost 8,5 million Euros.

Goalkeeper Quim uncomfortable by criticisms during pre-season that he was ''finished" in post-game video interview Aug 9, 2009

Quim was in goal for the 2009 Eusebio Cup against Inter Milan on August 9, 2009. Nonetheless he was dropped from Queiroz' call-up list for the August 12, 2009 friendly. Instead the 3 Portugal goalkeepers are Eduardo, Beto and Moreira.

Quim was asked in the mixed-zone after the Eusebio Cup to explain his 'silencing' gesture. Quim said in Portuguese with a serious face:

00:53: "I did it because, I went through this pre-season with people saying that I no longer had a career. Every day things like 'I was losing quality.' I think I deserve more respect for what I have already done. I'm an international player."

When I saw a Portugal game last fall 2008 on livestream I usually looked at Danny, Ferreira and Carvalho. Unless goalkeeper Quim does a save, there's rarely more than 3 close-ups in the 45 minute periods. Some pictures of Portugal goalkeeper Quim trying to defend in games.

Ricardo's goalkeeper gloves-- white with a dark blue stripe, name R1CARDO
Quim goalkeeper gloves-- all white, portuguese flag on the index finger, name QUIM
Rui Patricio goalkeeper gloves-- all white, light green stripe, can't find a picture of one where one can see his name.

This photo was first shown to me by Pantera a few weeks ago. In the few pictures I've seen with goalkeper Quim, he's always getting teased by gk Ricardo. In this picture it looks like Eduardo is teasing Quim.
