Oct. 3, 2008- Week's star: Nuno Gomes, No playing time Hugo Almeida, goalkeeper Ricardo- your thoughts?

Every week, I'll post about which player in the Portugal national team is having a great week, and which are not getting playing time, called "Week's star, no playing time." Share who you think is in great form and who you think is unfairly not getting playing time.

Star
Nuno Gomes
- Goal against Napoli qualifying Benfica to the 2nd round.
- Called up for the next 2 Portugal games.

The Benfica striker is in great shape this week. He didn't start as a favorite for the starting 11 with new coach Quique Sanchez Flores. Sanchez is making Nuno Gomes fight for his position. A goal in this important UEFA cup game is reason enough to start giving Gomes more minutes.

No playing time-

- Hugo Almeida- Striker did not play in the big game Bayern Munich v Werder Bremen. Claudio Pizarro is the preferred striker. Werder scores even with other players Diego, and Rosenberg. Queiroz might prefer Nuno Gomes over Almeida in the next 2 Portugal games just because Gomes is scoring and in form.

- Paolo Ferreira- Not playing at Chelsea. He's in Queiroz' call-up list for the next 2 Portugal games. Didn't play in the last 2 Portugal games. Not playing at Chelsea, his starting right-back position went to Bosingwa. I predict Ferreira will stay on the bench in the next 2 Portugal games.

- Goalkeeper Ricardo- This I can't believe! It's allright if Queiroz doesn't call him up but at least play regularly in his club, Betis. Goalkeeper Ricardo did not play in the first 4 games of Betis!! I thought he would play at least in the last 2 big games against Barcelona and Real Madrid. The Betis goalkeeper is Casto and Ricardo is on the bench. My question is why didn't Ricardo go to Valencia? Valencia was looking for a first choice goalkeeper to replace Germany's Hildebrand. Who did they sign? Renan, the Brazilian goalkeeper who played in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. If you ask me, Ricardo has more experience than Renan and knows the Spanish La Liga after having played there a season.
