Portugal goalkeeper Eduardo transfer July 9 2010 to Genoa, Serie A

Eduardo transfer July 9 2010-

I am delighted that Portugal goalkeeper Eduardo signed with a realistic club in the Serie A. He deserves to be in a top club but small steps is a good idea to get experience in the Serie A, and another country.

The Serie A has the “spotlight” like Spain’s LIga and the EPL. I couldn’t imagine Eduardo going to a Russian club or Turkey or France with all due respect. I do wish him better luck than fellow Portuguese players.

For goalkeepers either you’re #1 or you stay on the bench. The good news for Eduardo is that Genoa finished in the Serie A top 10 in 2009-2010. They have efficient goalscorers like David Suazo and Italy national team players Palladino and Aquafresca.

Genoa said Eduardo is a top-class goalkeeper and since the ‘star’ goalkeeper Marco Amelia left, Eduardo will presumable take his place.

The Serie A season is looking mighty dangerous and Eduardo is all of a sudden thrust into the spotlight in a league with superstars and current Champions League winners. It doesn’t compare to Braga or Liga Sagres.

As an Inter fan, I am very curious to see if Eduardo can make enough defenses against Inter’s goal-prowess. Scneijder’s trademark free kicks, Diego Milito’s strikes, Cordoba’s strikes, Cambiasso’s long range strikes….

Another thing to look for is his performance in the Genoa derby against Sampdoria. Will he help keep a clean sheet against Sampdoria and their famous forwards Pazzini and Cassano? I hope so. The fixtures for the 2010-11 Serie A haven’t been released yet.

July 9 2010- Goalkeeper Eduardo’s move to Genoa from Braga as reported in the Genoa website in Italian. The deal between Braga and Genoa is closed and Eduardo still has 10 days to enjoy a vacation from the world cup. Eduardo will join the GEnoa pre-season after his vacation and the official presentation date is yet to be determined. http://www.genoacfc.it/index.php?option=com_con…

GENOVA - He arrived in Milan, Italy with the biggest smile in the world. He’s one of the first Genoan players to arrive, right after closing the deal. Eduardo dos Reis Carvalho didn’t waste time, like when he defends the Portugal soccer team net. He is already in Italy where he went to get the medical tests before returning to his country [Portugal]. With him were the staff of the Genoa team, sporting director Fabrizio Preziosi and Alessandro Zarbano ( Stefano Capozucca followed the deal in Italy).

These four were completely exhausted but visibly satisfied because of the successful deal. They are aware that they brought a top player (giocatore di livello) to Genoa. For Eduardo there are still bits of time for his vacation. Vacation to recover from the world cup.

Within 10 days Eduardo will join his new teammates for the start of the Genoa pre-season. Fans eagerly await his official presentation.
