Miguel Veloso not called up for this weekend's game. Veloso arrived late to Friday's training due to personal issues. Cover of Record March 6, 2009

Not being close to Miguel Veloso, I have no idea what personal issues he's going through. He didn't play in the last 3 Sporting games because he had muscle pains. This week he was declared fit and available to be called up for this weekend's Sporting game against Paços de Ferreira.

Today March 6, 2009 Sporting coach Paulo Bento had to decide whether or not to include Miguel Veloso in the call-up list. Even appearing on Record's cover with his big picture. Later today Bento said he will not be included in the call-up list. Not because he's unfit but because of choice (opção técnica).

English translation of Record's main headline, March 6, 2009:

Miguel Veloso trained without limitations.
HIS APOLOGY IS IN THE HANDS OF BENTO.

The coach decides today whether or not to call him up for the game against Pacos De Ferreira. However, a place in the starting lineup is out of the question.

It was reported that Miguel Veloso arrived late to the training session.

---Bento's explanation today: He was authorized to arrive late to Friday's training session due to personal reasons. "Miguel was not called-up because of a choice and not because he arrived late to today's training session. He did the training later but he was authorized to do so, due to personal issues.

("O Miguel não está convocado por opção técnico-tática e não por ter chegado atrasado ao treino de hoje. Integrou os trabalhos mais tarde do que a hora prevista mas estava autorizado, devido a questões de ordem pessoal")

The Sporting coach hopes Miguel Veloso learns how to overcome obstacles.
---Bento said that "All through my career, I also tried to learn how to deal with adversarial times. I hope Miguel does it too." Mas Paulo Bento disse ainda que Veloso tem também de aprender com os "momentos adversos".

------
I wish Veloso can be back soon to play for Sporting. One of the "young guns" of the Portugal team has to be back in Queiroz' list.
