Vote: Who's your favorite to win the Portuguese League 2008-2009, Benfica, Sporting, FC Porto?
Judging by this weekend's results of the big 3, FC Porto looks strong. They won the last 2 games. My favorite Sporting drew their last game.
The weak one is Benfica! Benfica captain, Portugal striker, Nuno Gomes said that Benfica is going to work hard to win the league.
"It's easier to say that the candidate for the title is FC Porto because they were champions last year. But Benfica has that objective this time. Just for that, they were champions, right? We're going to do our best possible job, and win the title, which is our objective."
I thought new coach Quique Sanchez Flores was going to start strong. They keep losing their matches! Yesterday against Paris Saint Germain, they were losing 0-2 at home! They were able to draw the game. Final score: Benfica 2-2 PSG. Flores got Pablo Aimar who's giving great performances. Flores keeps experimenting with the starting lineup.
Meanwhile, Benfica is still in the transfer market for a proven striker. Rui Costa has travelled to Barcelona, Spain to persuade Luis Garcia from Espanyol to join Benfica.
Benfica's 1st serious test will be the Eusebio Cup, on August 12th.
