This Friday will be Benfica v. Inter, part of the Eusebio Cup. Mourinho v. Quique Sanchez Florez. They faced each other in the Champions League when it was Chelsea v. Valencia. Now with different clubs, they face each other again. Who will win?
Interesting how both are pressured to win.
Jose Mourinho because this is an important game for Inter. Closer to the start of the Serie A on August 30th.
Quique Sanchez Flores, new Benfica coach, needs to show fans AT HOME they can win against quality teams like Inter. Bad start of the 2008-2009 pre-season losing their first games. Finally winning their 1st trophy Guimaraes, and winning against Feyernoord on August 9, 2008. New signings Pablo Aimar and Jose Antonio Reyes to be decisive in this, their first season at Benfica.
2 Portugal national team players: Nuno Gomes and Jorge Ribeiro. Nuno Gomes was a substitute in the last Benfica game Benfica v. Feyernoord.
A little about the Eusebio cup:
The cup is named in honor of Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, a Portugal and Benfica living legend. It will be the 1st year. The cup will be held annually at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, Portugal. Only this year it will be one game Benfica v. Inter. Next year it will be disputed among 4 teams.
Eusebio said in the press conference of the presentation on August 4, 2008, about Inter chosen as Benfica's opponent,
"Inter, I think it was well chosen. I already faced them and wanted to hire me. Today it's a club trained by a great Portuguese, Mourinho, and has Figo and Pele. Now I just hope it will be a good game and that the cup stays at home, because it's the first one and it has a lot of symbolism."
Rui Costa said,
"Thank you for representing Benfica like no other man in Portugal can. It was him that made me stay in BEnfica when I was younger and it will be a pleasure to be in the first Eusebio cup. I hope that it will be a happy day."
Benfica coach Quique Sanchez Flores said,"The fans understand that Benfica lives an ideal and new project. We'll present the best possible team, that which represents Benfica the best."
