Sporting 2-0 Sampdoria pre-season friendly August 9, 2008, No Cassano, Samp played with 10 men in 2nd half, Veloso and Postiga substitutes in 2nd half

My favorite team won today, Sporting! I thought it would be a Sporting 3-1 Sampdoria score. And that Cassano would be in the Sampdoria starting lineup. Sampdoria played with 10 men in the 2nd half. Campagnaro was sent off in the 44th minute.

Sporting had a lot to prove in this game, the last pre-season test before their real important match of the season, chance to win their first trophy for 2008-2009. The SuperTaca: leões v. dragões / Sporting v. FC Porto

This was Sporting's 6th pre-season game for 2008-2009! The 5th anniversary of their home stadium, Estádio José Alvalade.

As for the 3 players from the Portugal natioanal team, only Joao Moutinho was in the starting lineup.

1) Forward Helder Postiga needs to show he can score when he replaces Derlei. Looks like he'll be a substitute. Paolo Bento prefers the partnership of Derlei and Yannick Djalo.

2) Joao Moutinho needed to show "heart and soul" after fans didn't appreciate him saying that he wanted to leave Sporting. Whenever he'd touch the ball, fans applauded him. There's peace now between Moutinho and the fans.

3) Miguel Veloso, fit to play 90 minutes before the Supertaca.

Lineup: 4 x 4 x 2

Rui Patricio

Abel - Tonel - Polga - Grimi.

Rochemback - João Moutinho - Izmailov - Romagnoli

Yannick Djaló - Derlei.

2nd half, Paolo bento made 5 changes:

goalkeeper: Tiago, defender Caneira, midfielder Veloso, Pereirinha, forward Hélder Postiga.

Replaced Rui Patrício, Abel, Rochemback, Romagnoli e Derlei.

Sampdoria, the blucerchiati, Italian club facing a strong team. Can it score goals and win the game abroad?

Lineup 3 x 5 x 2:
No Bellucci, Fornaroli, and above all Antonio Cassano. Cassano stayed in Genoa to continue the necessary training to be in condition.

Mirante

Campagnaro -- Gastaldello --Accardi

Pieri -- Palombo -- Franceschini -- Sammarco -- Stankevicius

Delvecchio -- Bonazzoli.

The scoreboard doesn't lie. 2-0. Evidently Sampdoria wan't close to winning or even dominating the game. They did play better in the 1st half especially in the first 15 minutes. Sporting couldn't get in the Sampdoria midfield and create chances. Samp defended well and Sporting was struggling in their home stadium!

After that, in the 2nd half Samp kept defending and not really look for goals. Bonazzoli had one chance. Walter Mazzarri had to replace him with another player. Izmailov could have scored but missed.

1st goal Romagnoli long ball to Derlei, passed it to yannick Djalo. Djalo passed it back to Derlei and scored, beating Sampdoria goalkeeper Amirante.
66th minute- Sampdoria could have scored. Ziegler, shot off target, to the right of goalkeeper Tiago.
79 th minute. Referree Pedro Proença didn't mark a penalty in favor of Sporting. Sampdoria goalkeeper Fiorillo brought down Sporting's Tiuí.

80th minute. The referee this time did mark the penalty in favor of Sporting. Perhaps to make up for the previous one he dind't call the minute before. Sampdoria goalkeeper Gastaldello brought down Sporting forward Helder Postiga. Captain Joao Moutinho went to the penalty box and scored! See the photo of Moutinho after he scored
