Is it time for Queiroz to bring back Betis goalkeeper Ricardo?
The pressure is on because:
Portugal's 1st choice goalkeeper QUIM is not going through a good moment.
New coach Carlos Queiroz made 'history' and shocked many Ricardo fans by excluding him from the Portugal games. Quim was the first choice goalkeeper in the post-Euro 2008 Portugal games.
Unfortunately, these weeks have been the lowest points in Quim's career. Made the cover of three sports papers after one of the goals in the Da Luz was his fault. Here's the cover of Record, the day after that game:
Benfica coach Quique excluded Quim from the following 2 games. Moreira was the 3rd choice goalkeeper.
Dec 18, 2008- Important Champions League game Benfica v. Metalist, Quique put Moreira in goal. Final score Benfica 0-1 Metalist. AFter 385 minutes without conceding a goal, Benfica finally conceded one unfortunately at home.
Portugal's 2nd choice goalkeeper Rui Patricio, from Sporting CP, suspended in the Champions League after being sent-off in Sprting 2-5 Barcelona, lost his 1st choice gk status in the league to Tiago. Tiago didn't concede any goals in the following 2 games.
He's not playing regularly in Sporting CP. Lost his 1st choice status to Tiago after the embarassing Sporting 2-5 Barcelona Champions League game. In that game he was sent off and had to be replaced by Tiago.
Tiago began to play with Sporting CP in that game (Sporting 2-5 Barcelona) after Rui Patricio was sent off, causing the referee to award Bacelona a penatly. However, in the next Portuguese League game Sporting coach Bento put Rui Patrício back in goal against V. Guimarães.
Since Tiago was suspended (red card) in the next Champions League games, Tiago was in goal and he did NOT CONCEDE ANY GOALS!!!!! Bento seemed to reward Tiago for that and put Tiago in the following game "Taça da Liga" (League cup) against Marítimo. Final score Sporting 3-0 Maritimo (Matchday 1, Group B, Carlsberg Cup, Taça da Liga Portuguesa). Now there were 2 games in a row without conceding goals.
---Now who will Queiroz call for the next Portugal game, friendly Portugal - Finland in Feberuary 2009?
