Losing place in the Portugal team- Carlos Queiroz did not call-up Meira for the 21-man list for Sweden and South Africa. The defenders were Bruno Alves (FC Porto), Gonçalo Brandão (Siena/Ita), Pepe (Real Madrid/Esp), Ricardo Carvalho (Chelsea/Ing), Nelson (Bétis/Esp), Bosingwa (Chelsea/Ing) Rolando (FC Porto).
Queiroz opted to call instead these 4 central defenders Rolando (FC Porto) and Ricardo Carvalho, Pepe, and Bruno Alves (FC Porto). For the next game against Albania, Meira will need to be very good at Zenith to replace either Rolando or Bruno Alves. Unless, bad luck strikes again and Carvalho gets injured.
