Jose Bosingwa 34', Anelka 38', 45'
I was getting worried that Paolo Ferreira was not getting enough playing time in the Premiership. How come Scolari doesn't use Ferreira every week?
West Brom 0-3 Chelsea- Substitute in the 85th minute for captain John Terry
I thought Scolari was going to put Ferreira in after the 90th minute again. What a surprise when he came on in the 85th mintue for captain John Terry.
Terry had a problem with his right foot and put an ice-pack when he went on the bench. If Terry was fine, I think Ferreira would have stayed on the bench.
He was in the central defense. With so many injuries in the defense, Ricardo Cavalho, Alex, and now probably Terry, Ferreira will be used to play out of position.
Needs to play regularly as right-back
Scolari won't rest Jose Bosingwa yet. If he does, it won't be anytime soon. Why bother putting him after the 90th minute? He had renewed his contract with Chelsea but I hope his agent Jorge Mendes finds a club this January that would want to sign him, even if on loan. His replacement, fellow Portuguese, Jose Bosingwa was extraordinary today and definitely conquered that right-back position.
Portugal team - Right-back position lost to Bosingwa and Miguel. Will he keep playing as a left-back in the starting lineup?
Portugal's lack of quality left-backs helps Ferreira play more often. In the next friendly Brazil - Portugal, Ferreira was one of the 7 defenders called up.
Defenders:
Bosingwa, (Chelsea)
Paulo Ferreira (Chelsea)
Bruno Alves (FC Porto);
Fernando Meira (Galatasaray)
Pepe (Real Madrid)
Miguel (Valência).
Rolando
Bosingwa is also the first-choice right-back. Queiroz' second option is Miguel. Queiroz however called 4 central defenders and no left-back. Guess who might play on as a left-back? Ferreira.
Since left-backs Antunes and Caneira were NOT called up, Ferreira has no competition in the next friendly. By the next qualifier, Carvalho will be fit again and Queiroz might call up a left-back and three central defenders instead of four.
